Participation in the Honduran Forum on Water and Sanitation (FHAS 2025)

On March 21, 2025, Dr. Hermann Manriquez Tirado, Director of the Institute of Geography, participated virtually in the Honduran Water and Sanitation Forum (FHAS 2025), held at the Polytechnic University of Innovation (UPI), within the framework of the collaboration agreement between both institutions.

This international event brought together experts and academics to reflect on current challenges in water and sanitation management under the theme "Conservation and Action for a Sustainable Future".

During his speech, Dr. Manríquez presented a paper entitled "Effects of Climate Change on the Management of Drinking Water Systems", in which he stressed the need to adopt a geographic approach to face the challenges that climate change imposes on the availability and quality of drinking water.

His presentation highlighted the growing pressure on water resources due to the increase in urban demand and the needs of the rural world, as well as pollution from industrial activities.

He also addressed the importance of implementing sustainable management strategies that take into account the variable behavior of climatic, hydrographic and socioeconomic factors.

From his perspective as director of the Institute of Geography of the PUCV, Dr. Manríquez emphasized the relevance of international cooperation and the global commitment to guarantee access to drinking water as an essential human right, as established by the United Nations. This perspective is consistent with his role as Pan American president of the Geography Commission of the Pan American Institute of Geography and History.

He also stressed the importance of investing in infrastructure and innovative technology to efficiently address the impacts of climate change on water resources.

Participation in this forum reaffirms the University's commitment to academic collaboration and the generation of knowledge in the Latin American context, in this case with sustainable development.
