PUCV present in tribute to Gabriela Mistral at the National Congress

The Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso was present at the tribute to Gabriela Mistral held at the National Congress, as part of the inauguration of the photographic exhibition "Gabriela Mistral returns to Italy".

Representing the University was Friar Cristian Eichin Molina, Vice Chancellor of the PUCV and Administrator of the Sister Gabriela Mistral Franciscan Fund, which safeguards the assets related to the legacy of the Nobel Laureate, including the medal and diploma of the award. He was joined by Ivania Yáñez, Director of International Exchange, and Lorena Muñoz, Coordinator of Communications and International Events of the Directorate General of International Affairs (DGAI).

The activity was inaugurated with the words of Manuel José Ossandón, President of the Senate, and was attended by the Ambassador of Italy in Chile, as well as authorities from different political, academic and cultural sectors.

The exhibition, inaugurated on August 19 in the Entrance Hall of the Hall of Honor of the National Congress, brings together 30 photographs by cultural manager and photographer Germán Barros, accompanied by texts by Gabriela Mistral that reflect her relationship with Italy, a country she visited for the first time in 1924 and where she served as Chilean Consul in Rapallo and Naples.

The project was promoted by the Chilean art and culture consulting firm Tesoros. From this research also emerged the dramatic work "Vento di Mistral", premiered in Licenza, near Rome, in co-production with the Italian company Settimo Cielo, as part of the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the Nobel Prize.
The exhibition invites you to rediscover the link between Gabriela Mistral and Italy through a selection of photographs and texts that show cultural, diplomatic and spiritual aspects of her life and work.
