To recognize its students’ commitment to learning new languages, the Pontifical Catholic University of Valparaíso (PUCV) held a ceremony to award Certificates of Participation in the PUCV Language Courses for the second semester of 2025 and the first semester of 2026.
The event brought together students who had taken courses in German, French, English, and Italian, highlighting the value of these opportunities for strengthening their linguistic and intercultural skills—essential tools for thriving in an increasingly international academic and professional environment.
The ceremony was attended by university officials, diplomatic representatives, deans and representatives of academic departments, faculty members, family members, and students, who joined the participants in this recognition of their commitment to language learning.
During the ceremony, the Director of International Projects, Ignacio Bahamonde, highlighted the importance of language learning. Subsequently, DAAD Lecturer Alina Neumeyer presented information about the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), its study opportunities, and the various scholarship options it offers to those who wish to pursue an academic experience in Germany. Another highlight of the event was the testimony of student Millaray Fernández López, who shared her experience with the PUCV’s language courses and reflected on how learning a new language can enrich one’s university and international experience.
The ceremony also featured the Honorary Consul of Belgium, Ruth Engels, who addressed the students and highlighted the value of engaging with other cultures through language learning.
One of the highlights of the day was the presentation of Certificates of Participation in the PUCV Language Courses, an acknowledgment given to students who, during this period, incorporated the study of a new language into their university education.
The certificates were presented by Jana Strohbach, a German teacher; Lorena Marchant, a French teacher; and Esperanza Godoy, Academic Coordinator of the Office of International Affairs and an English teacher.
The ceremony highlighted the students' commitment to learning German, French, English, and Italian, thereby strengthening their linguistic and intercultural skills.
This recognition served to highlight the students’ hard work, dedication, and commitment, encouraging them to continue strengthening their linguistic and cultural skills and to take advantage of the various international opportunities offered by the University.
The event concluded with a musical performance by Belstrings, a group composed of musicians from the PUCV that combines classical tradition with a modern musical style. Afterward, the Director General of International Affairs, Orlando de la Vega Luna, delivered the closing remarks for the ceremony.
