In the framework of the beginning of the General Assembly of the Synod of Synodality, the Pontifical University of Valparaiso (PUCV), through the General Directorate of International Affairs, in conjunction with the International Academy of Catholic Leaders (ALC) and the International Chair of Social Doctrine of the Church PUCV, held the second International Conference on the Social Doctrine of the Church 2023, at the central house of the PUCV, on October 5, which was chaired by the Vice Chancellor of the university, Cristián Eichin.
On the occasion, the main speaker was Presbyter Dr. Mario Angel Flores, appointed for three terms as a member of the International Theological Commission of the Holy See and former rector, also for three terms, of the Pontifical University of Mexico. Dr. Ramos coordinated the text of theological deepening on the Synod in the context of the preparation for it, commissioned by Pope Francis to the International Theological Commission.
In the dialogue, led by the Dean of the Ecclesiastical Faculty of Theology of the PUCV, Dr. Loreto Moya, Dr. Ramos spoke on "Synodality and its importance for the Church in the 21st century". The former rector of the Pontifical University of Mexico was accompanied by Daniela Calzia, coordinator of the Synod in the Diocese of Valparaiso, and Leonardo Cordova, Episcopal Delegate for the Service of Integral Human Development.
This opportunity allowed us to reflect on the relevance of the Synod as a method of bonding in the Church based on the community participation of its members.
This discussion closed three moments of dialogue with the international guest, which began on Wednesday in the meeting "The theological relevance of the synodal path", led by the faculty secretary, Dr. Francisco Vargas, and "The importance of the synodal path: model of communion for movements and ecclesial realities of the Diocese of Valparaiso", led by Dr. Juan Pablo Faúndez, director of the International Chair of Social Doctrine of the Church of the PUCV.
