On June 1, the campus of the Faculty of Philosophy and Education of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso (PUCV) became the venue for the tenth anniversary conference of the Network of Chilean Researchers in English Language Teaching (Ricelt). This event brought together teachers in training, education system administrators, academics, researchers and various authorities.
The event was supported by the Institute of Literature and Language Sciences (ILCL), the General Directorate of International Affairs (DGAI) of the PUCV and the Ministry of Education, through the English Opens Doors Program (PIAP).
The event began with a review of Ricelt's national and international achievements over the past decade. Attendees had the opportunity to interact and form professional connections, while the exhibition of posters related to English language education generated an interdisciplinary dialogue. In addition, the state of research on English language teaching in Chile was evaluated by both established professionals and English language education students.
The activity was developed in two panels. Panel A featured speakers Yasna Yilorm from Universidad Austral; Andrea Lizasoain from Pontificia Universidad Católica; Annjeannette Martin from Universidad de Los Andes, and Leyla Núñez from Colegio Altos de Huerto, who discussed their beginnings, current studies and future projects. Panel B, made up of Claudia Tapia from the Universidad Católica de Temuco; Daniela Avello from the Universidad de O'Higgins; Benjamín Cárcamo from the Universidad de las Américas; Rodrigo Díaz from the Universidad Bernardo O'Higgins, and Adjani Salazar, a student at the PUCV, addressed the difficulties and experiences of community members who are beginning their research and teachers in training.
Loreto Aliaga, a member of the Ricelt founding team, expressed her satisfaction with the event and highlighted the importance of interaction between the different members of the English language teaching community. Katharina Glas, PhD and professor at ILCL PUCV, also shared her vision of the event, highlighting the diversity of the audience and the value of bringing together varied experiences from all over the Valparaiso Region.
