The Directorate General of International Affairs (DGAI) of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso (PUCV) announces the recent publication of the book "Spanish for Specific Purposes in Latin America: An overview of pedagogical practices and research trends", coordinated by the University of Arizona, USA. This innovative volume is the first to offer a comprehensive overview of research in the field of Spanish for Specific Purposes (ESP) in the region.
This book is composed of two parts that address both Spanish for academic and workplace purposes, with a particular emphasis on pedagogical practices for the classroom. The studies presented, carried out by scholars from seven Latin American countries (Chile, Costa Rica, Cuba, Brazil, Guatemala, Mexico and Peru), explore crucial issues for the teaching of Spanish in various contexts. Thus, the volume highlights how the field of EFE can respond to the pedagogical needs observed in Latin America, integrating new approaches to applied linguistics.
In this publication, the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso has collaborated with a chapter entitled "Reflections and perspectives on Spanish as a second language for academic purposes in Chile", written by Dr. Sonia Toledo and Enrique Sologuren. This chapter recounts the valuable experience of the Directorate of International Exchange (DII) in the course "Academic Writing and Orality for the University", demonstrating the commitment of our institution to internationalization and support for international students.
PUCV's participation in this book reinforces our international academic connections, but also represents a significant contribution to the field of teaching Spanish for specific purposes. We are confident that this book will be a valuable contribution to researchers and teachers in the areas of language teaching, Spanish for specific purposes and applied linguistics.
