PUCV professor met with the Minister of Education and the Chilean Ambassador to Spain

Professor Daniel Duclos Bastías represented the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso at a meeting held at the Chilean Embassy in Spain, which was attended by the Minister of Education, Nicolás Cataldo and Ambassador Javier Velásco.

At this meeting, the Embassy brought together Chilean researchers and postgraduate students who are currently developing academic activities in Spain. Minister Cataldo presented the Government's agenda in the field of Education, highlighting the agreements reached with the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities of Spain. These agreements focus on the homologation of degrees between both countries and establish a protocol to facilitate the access of Chilean students to Spanish university education.

During the meeting, the participants shared experiences and expressed concerns about various educational issues, such as the teaching career and the retribution to the system of beneficiaries of the teacher vocation scholarship.

Professor Daniel Duclos, who is conducting a research stay at the University of Castilla-La Mancha, took the opportunity to raise to the Minister the importance of highlighting Physical Education and Sport in the education system, especially in the context of the Santiago 2023 Games. Duclos proposed to reestablish the compulsory nature of Physical Education for the 3rd and 4th grades as a significant legacy for the welfare of students and school climate.

In addition, the PUCV academic suggested that Higher Education Institutions should advance in the creation of "legacy credits", implementing compulsory subjects of physical education or promotion of sports practice in universities. This measure would contribute to the strengthening of the integral formation of university students.

The participation of Professor Daniel Duclos in this meeting highlights the commitment of the PUCV with the dialogue on education and the importance of promoting initiatives that have a positive impact on the educational field at a national and international level.
