The second day of the international poetry festival Latinale Sur 2024, organized by our DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) reader in Valparaiso, Alina Neumeyer, took place at Ciudad Abierta in Ritoque. Among the distinguished guests was the German Ambassador to Chile, Mrs. Irmgard Maria Fellner. In this sixth edition of the festival, under the motto "Displaced Poetry", various forms of artistic expression were combined: dance, eurythmy and slam poetry. The event continued on Saturday at Casa Central of the PUCV with three workshops in the same area: contemporary dance, "The Writing of the Body", eurythmy that is based on anthroposophy and slam poetry whose scene in Germany is cultural heritage since 2016 by UNESCO. The results of the morning's work were then presented at the port market, an emblematic place that will be 100 years old in 2024.
After a short break, the festival continued at Casa Central, where a discussion on "The poetic as counter-discourse" was held. This space provided an opportunity for conversation between panelists from different disciplines such as poetry, design, dance and culture to delve into what poetry and art in general contribute to our contemporary society. The event at Casa Central complemented the experience of the day at Ciudad Abierta, offering an ongoing dialogue between festival participants. This is also reflected by showing a documentary about one of the world's most famous dancers, Pina Bausch, on International Dance Day. The festival ends with a cosmopolitan poetry reading between several poets from different countries and concludes with the "Dance on the eve of May", a tradition that transcends from the Middle Ages to our times, to scare away demons.
The international poetry festival Latinale Sur is understood as a space for intercultural encounter and exploration of the poetic wealth of the region and other countries, promoting mutual enrichment through art and literature, seeking above all the bridge between Latin America and Germany where the Latinale festival was born in 2006.
